Tools I use
The free dashboard I check every week.
I use one free tool more than any other, and it's the first thing I recommend to every woman in tech who asks how I keep track of it all.
My net-worth tracker
Empower Personal Dashboard
Empower (formerly Personal Capital) is a free dashboard that links all your accounts, checking, savings, brokerage, 401(k), IRA, mortgage, into one clean view of your net worth. It's a longtime favorite in the FIRE community, and it's been the backbone of my own plan for years.
Try Empower's free dashboardWhy I keep coming back to it
One number, every account. Instead of logging into six different sites, I open one dashboard and see my whole net worth and how it's trending. Watching that line bend upward is the single most motivating part of the journey.
It shows the fees nobody mentions. The retirement fee analyzer surfaced expense ratios that were quietly costing me real money. Cutting them was one of the easiest wins I ever made.
It checks my allocation. The investment checkup shows whether I'm actually diversified or accidentally over-weighted in my employer's stock, a trap a lot of us in tech fall into.
How it fits with FIREflow
FIREflow stays private by design: your numbers never leave your browser. Empower is the opposite kind of tool, it links your accounts to track them for you. I use both on purpose. FIREflow to model the plan with no login required, Empower to watch the balance grow toward the number. Use whichever fits the moment, or both.
